On Louis’Character in Unbroken from the Perspective of Heroism
Heroism has always been an eternal theme in American culture. Both literary fiction and film art are inseparable from the “heroic” figure. If worshiping heroes and advocating heroism are a kind of nature, then in the eyes of contemporary psychologists, it is more necessary for people to strive to become heroes. This tendency is more about the interpretation, promotion and cultivation of the character of the hero. When people are immersed in culture, their behaviors and ways of thinking will involuntarily move closer to heroic character, which has a profound influence on the development of character.
The novel Unbroken is hailed as “a grand masterpiece that touched the people of the entire United States.” It mainly tells the heroic story of a World War II prisoner of war who fought hard to achieve redemption during the humiliating years. This thesis will analyze the character of the hero in the novel from the perspective of heroism. By analyzing the characters of Louis, it can find out the formative factors of his character and get some inspirations about personality. This will benefit the readers to avoid weaknesses, constantly improve them, and realize the value of life.
