A Case Study on Scaffolding Instruction in High School English Reading Class
As a teaching method based on the theory of constructivism and “Proximal Development Zone”, Scaffolding Instruction has been increasingly used, which plays an active role in improving students' reading interest and participation in English reading class. Taking the Unit 2 “The Olympic Games” of High School English (compulsory 2) textbook of the People’s Education Press as an example, this paper makes a complete teaching design under the guidance of Scaffolding Instruction. It explains how teachers set goals, questions, emotion and other scaffolds in the process of lead-in, pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading in class. Through the feedback of the respondents, it is proved that Scaffolding Instruction plays an important part in stimulating students’ interest in learning English and improving their comprehensive reading ability.??
